Mission and Vision

The Global Language Network (GLN) is a DC-based 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization whose mission is to advance language learning by:

  • Offering classes in common and less commonly taught languages
  • Making language learning affordable and effective
  • Facilitating cross-cultural interaction and exchange
  • We offer affordable language classes in more than 60 languages taught by dedicated native speakers who volunteer their time and energy to teach their language and share their culture.

GLN makes learning enjoyable and effective — we create a comfortable environment where students and teachers collaborate as learning partners and interact with the target language and culture. This experience builds students’ confidence and competence to communicate with others in meaningful and appropriate ways, while developing teachers as educators and leaders.

Vision: Global change by empowering individuals and communities through the gift of language and culture

Our vision is based on the premise that language is a special tool that elevates people and unlocks the human potential: it opens new perspectives, broadens horizons and enriches lives because it enables people to establish invaluable connections around the globe.

By advancing language learning, GLN hopes to empower people and communities and bring about global change:

  • Increase individual, community and global tolerance and understanding
  • Give individuals the tools to succeed and compete in a global economy
  • Protect and promote rare languages and cultures
  • Promote a more peaceful, productive and inclusive world
  • In order to realize our vision, we aim to establish a vast, diverse network to deliver our language services within the United States and expand our reach internationally. Please review our Strategic Plan to see where GLN is headed in the next five years.
