Our Impact
Today, GLN advances language learning in the Washington, DC area. Each semester GLN receives five times as many class requests as there are spots available. There are three main reasons:
1. Language classes are prohibitively expensive.
2. Language classes in less commonly taught languages (such as Albanian or Quechua) are scarce.
3. Most language classes do not adequately teach people to use the target language.
GLN addresses those problems by offering affordable classes in common and less commonly taught languages using a unique approach that focuses on building students’ confidence and competence.
However, GLN must expand to address the needs of their growing community. In this global society, the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately in multiple languages is more critical than ever, and GLN is prepared to offer the resources necessary to help meet this goal.
