Our curriculum is thematically-based to provide a basis and context for language and culture learning. Each course addresses a theme consisting of approximately 5-6 subthemes and related topics. The theme for Explorer(Beg. III) focuses on participating in foreign-language speaking communities.

Participating in Foreign Language-Speaking Communities:
Work, Health and Play

Thematic and topic-related language and concepts are recycled and used throughout the course, ensuring that students are increasingly able to communicate their ideas on a topic. This ability will enable students to connect with others, establish relationships, and participate in foreign-language speaking communities. .

  • Unit 4: Sports and National Pastimes
  • Unit 5: Social Networking
  • Through the content covered in the Explorer (Beginner III) course, students should be able to meet the following objectives at the end of the semester:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the cultural contexts of the target language
  • Communicate in authentic educational, professional, and social settings and participate in target-language communities
  • Establish and maintain a basic spoken exchange related to their professions and health and medical needs
  • Explore sports and national pastimes in the target language and culture
  • Understand and participate in local holidays and celebrations
  • Socialize in target language communities in culturally appropriate ways
  • By exploring the theme, Participating in Foreign Language-Speaking Communities: Work, Health , and Play, this course further prepares and enables students to communicate effectively and appropriately with other people in the target language and culture within that society.
