Frequent Flyer

Our curriculum is thematically-based to provide a basis and context for language and culture learning. Each course addresses a theme consisting of approximately 5-6 subthemes and related topics. The theme for Frequent Flyer (Intermediate) focuses on Understanding Other People Through Language and Culture.

Understanding Other People Through Language and Culture: Values, Beliefs, and Attitudes

Thematic and topic-related language and concepts are recycled and used throughout the course, ensuring that students are increasingly able to communicate their ideas on a topic. This ability will enable students to connect with others, establish relationships, and participate in foreign-language speaking communities. .

  • Through the content covered in the Frequent Flyer course, students should be able to meet the following objectives at the end of the semester:

  • Increase knowledge and understanding of the cultural contexts of the target language
  • Analyze, discuss, and report on a wide variety of practices and perspectives of the target culture
  • Compare and contrast values, beliefs, and attitudes
  • Investigate, analyze, and present information and viewpoints on social issues from the target culture using authentic sources
  • Discuss how gender, religion, and history influences culture
  • Examine forms of government and political issues in the target culture
  • By exploring the theme, Understanding Other People Through Language and Culture: Values, Beliefs, and Attitudes, this course further prepares and enables students to communicate effectively and appropriately with other people in the target language and culture within that society.
