Learning Approach

GLN makes learning enjoyable and effective – we create a comfortable environment where students and teachers collaborate as learning partners and interact with the target language and culture. This experience builds students’ confidence and competence to communicate with others in meaningful and appropriate ways, while developing teachers as educators and leaders. We have several goals for our GLN community:

  • Promote lifelong language learning and improve cross-cultural understanding
  • Connect and empower people through language and culture
  • Build and nurture foreign language speaking communities
  • Foster an organizational culture of collaboration, sharing, and volunteerism
  • Meet the learning needs and goals of our students
  • We strive to achieve these goals by providing an engaging and practical curriculum, dedicated teachers, and affordable and accessible classes. Read more about our methodology and classroom environment.

    GLN’s 7 C’s

We have adapted our language learning model (see figure below) from ACTFL’s Five C’s of Foreign Language Education: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. However, our model incorporates Competence, replaces Comparisons with Collaboration, and culminates with Confidence, which is the heart of GLN’s language learning philosophy and approach.
