A Farewell to GLN

My name is Bailey Wiles and I have had the privilege of serving as GLN’s Program Coordinator over the last 10 months. It is bittersweet for me to announce that I will be leaving GLN to pursue opportunities in Seattle, Washington. While I will sincerely miss all of the amazing people I have met here in D.C., I am excited for my next adventure (and less humidity).

I have learned a great deal during my time at GLN, including how to introduce myself in Haitian Creole, and how to effectively coordinate over 700 students, 60 teachers, and a handful of volunteers each semester. The part of my job that I have enjoyed the most has been getting to know and interacting with all of you, the members of the Global Language Network. I have never met more devoted, passionate, and inspiring individuals than those involved in this network. I am continuously in awe of the devotion of so many to our mission to “use language as a tool to help fix our world.”

One memory that sticks out is how amazing it was when the GLN community rallied together to lend a helping hand during our sudden office move in November of last year. We had volunteers who dropped everything to help us move heavy furniture into the evening hours, and partners who reached out offering space for us to rent. The outpouring of support was incredibly inspiring and I will be forever grateful to those who helped us through that tough period.

Overall, I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of a cause that means so much to me and to so many others. I will look back very fondly on my time at GLN and I look forward to using the skills I have learned in this job for many years to come. Merci, shukraan, gracias, and thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey here at GLN. I wish you all the best in your future language learning.
