I love teaching because I see it as a bridge between people. As someone who thrives in social environments, I’m invigorated by human connection. My teaching experiences have provided me with a greater exchange of information than anything else I’ve done. I truly found a passion for teaching when I worked as an English instructor in the Jeollanam-do province of South Korea. The cultural immersion I experienced and the chance to inspire my students was one that changed my outlook on life and showed me a path I hope to continue to follow. I believe teaching others the love of learning is one of the best ways to make an impact on the world.

I wanted to find a way to increase my volunteering efforts in the Washington, D.C. community. I’m also a Volunteer Crew Leader with Habitat for Humanity and I wanted to find other ways that I could volunteer in the classroom setting. I read many positive reviews of GLN online and the flexibility they offer those wishing to volunteer was something that I didn’t want to pass up. I see teaching at a place like GLN not only as a way for me to share my knowledge and help others with their English language proficiency, but a way for me to learn and become more culturally aware, which is something I have always strived to do. I am fascinated by the chance to get perspectives from others on issues that we see in American society and use those perspectives to build a more worldly view.
