Translation Tuesday–The Other English!
Happy Tuesday, GLNers! Hoping for a sunny day today… A close friend, who resides in London, was recently teaching me the British way of speaking English. This might surprise a non-native English speaker: American English vocabulary often differs from British English. Here is a “translation” of names for articles of clothing that could be handy when you shop overseas, get dressed in the morning or talk to a friend from the UK:
US–UK
sweater–jumper
pants–trousers
underpants–pants
Finally, just in case the weather forecast is correct for today, did you bring your umbrella–also known as a brolly….?
