Class:2019 / Fellow

My name is Elena Jiménez, I was born in Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. I’ve lived in Tampico, Mexico City, and Cancun! I studied Economics for my Bachelor’s Degree in Mexico City and then what brought me to the US was my masters degree in Public Policy, which I studied in Chicago. I currently live between DC and Cancun. I really like learning languages because I think they show us a new way to see the world. I love adrenaline so I get on rollercoasters, go sky diving, scuba diving, or anything I have an opportunity to do that will give me adrenaline! I look forward to showing students the richness of the Spanish language and learning to see different perspectives of life together, through our languages. One of my favorite words in Spanish is ‘gana’. ‘La gana’ or ‘las ganas’ are the willingness or desire to do something. There is no direct translation into English that I know of.
