Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Global Language Network! Blast from the Past
September 2005 – Andrew Brown founded GLN on the campus of The George Washington University. Initially, GLN served primarily GW students, faculty, and staff.
April 2006 – Andrew Brown and GLN win multiple awards at the 2006 Excellence Awards event held at The George Washington University. [Baer Award for Individual Excellence, Pyramid Award, Walter G. Bryte Achievement Award]
October 2006 – GLN opened its doors to members of the D.C. community
March 2007 – GLN starts hosting Ambassador Panels among its many other cultural events. GLN hosted events featuring over one dozen foreign ambassadors to the US.
May 2007 – On behalf of GLN, Andrew accepts The George Washington Award at GWU’s 2007 Commencement Ceremony. The GW Award is the most distinguished award at GWU. Spring 2008 – Andrew incorporated GLN into an official, 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization
October 2008 – GLN begins collaborating with The World Bank in developing teacher training. GLN becomes one of the few organizations that the World Bank language department endorses for its exception teacher training and unique approach to teaching a language.
January 2010 – GLN begins hosting classes at partner organizations around D.C.
August 2012 – Teaching Fellowship introduced and first class of teaching fellows is selected
September 2015 – Global Giver Fellowship introduced and first cohort of Global Givers is selected
November 2015 – GLN has a record breaking semester offering 55 classes with 678 students
